Twll Du – Devil’s Kitchen

Twll Du, or the Devil’s Kitchen is an impressive cleft in the crags high above Cwm Idwal. While the cleft itself should be avoided, a good path leads directly towards it before veering around it and to Llyn y Cwn.

Twll Du translates to the Black Hole from welsh, and no explanation is needed why! The Devil’s Kitchen name derives from the clouds that rise from the cleft,, suggestive of smoke from a kitchen which is obviously going to be occupied by the devil. One can only presume he’s cooking up something spicy.

Turn right here – you can just about see Carwyn on the path!
