Easy Grasmere Riverside Walk
This easy Grasmere Riverside walk along the River Rothay is an ideal way to see more than just the touristy parts of Grasmere village in the Lake District.
There’s no doubting Grasmere’s popularity, with the strong poetic links to William Wordsworth, and plenty of walking options, it’s no wonder that it’s geared up for the tourist. There’s plenty to see, and here’s a very short walk in the village centre along the riverside. Along the route you’ll obviously see Grasmere Village but also the location of Wordsworth’s Grave in the churchyard of St Oswald’s Church, a location that attracts people from all parts of the world. St Oswald’s was the only consecrated ground in the area and because of that, it was necessary to bring the dead for burial in this holy ground from far and wide along the the Coffin Route from Ambleside.
The walk then returns through the village of Grasmere, so you’ve plenty of opportunity to sample all the delights of the village and indulge in all that tourist stuff if you want. Thankfully that includes stopping off for a well earned pint (though every pint seems to be ‘well earned’).
You can also start this walk from the Stock Lane Car park or from the lay-by parking on the A591.
