Ruffwear Web Master Harness Review
Ted and Awen (his human friend) have been busy over the late Spring early Summer and bring us their Ruffwear Web Master Harness Review
The Ruffwear Web Master harness is a secure and durable harness, with a tough handle on the back it’s perfect for guiding your four legged friend on mountain or country walks.
What Ruffwear say:
.…a secure, supportive, multi-use harness built for manoeuvring and assisting dogs up and over obstacles
This harness does exactly what it promises. Ted loves his harness. We went for the blue, or blue dusk as Ruffwear call it.
As with the Ruffwear Vert Jacket which we reviewed back in March there is a limited colour choice, (Twilight Grey, Blue Dusk and Red Currant) but I feel that the blue contrasts well with Ted’s golden coat.
My initial thoughts were that it’s very bulky and it looks like a life jacket, but I think this was due to me comparing it with other cheaper and smaller harnesses he has worn (and managed to come out of them!) in the past. But after a while I soon got used to it and feel that this is a small price to pay to ensure a completely secure harness.
With the Web Master, Ruffwear have created a durable harness that doesn’t affect the dog’s mobility. Ted has walked up many mountains and strolled through several country walks in his harness and is always able to move freely. He walks/ runs easily without any limitation in his movement.
We take full advantage of all the country trails and mountain walks right on our door step here in Snowdonia and the Ruffwear Web Master harness has firmly taken pride of place in our kit bag by now. Steep styles and rocky mountains are no longer an obstacle, we can lift Ted with ease using the handle on the back.
The padded chest and belly support ensure that lifting is comfortable for Ted. It can also be used just to provide that little extra support or encouragement over certain styles.
The harness is very easy to put on. It goes over your dogs’ head then you insert one leg through the strap and closed with two secure buckles on the side. I strongly recommend that you follow the size guide on the website and watch the video before buying it.
There are adjustable straps on the front of the chest. Personally, I found these rather tough to tighten, especially when Ted was wearing the harness, it was easier to adjust them when he wasn’t wearing it. Ted is a bit of a chewer, we’re on the third lead already, and he has managed to chew a bit of the adjustable straps around his chest. But otherwise the harness is very tough and durable.
We don’t tend to use the harness for leisurely walks as it does feel like a bit of an overkill due to its bulk. We prefer to give him a smaller harness for walks around town, so if you don’t go on that many country or mountain walks maybe the Hi & Light harness by Ruffwear would be a more suitable (and cheaper) choice for you and your dog, though we haven’t gear tested it, yet!
The Web Master looks great, I love the Ruffwear logo on the chest as it really finishes it off. We’ve had several compliments about Ted’s harness whilst out on walks, which is always a good sign!
The harness does get dirty, with the blue being a fairly light colour markings and dirt do tend to show. However, I’ve kept ours clean by just giving it a wipe with warm soapy water, it air dries quickly so no need to worry about it being damp.
Verdict
Priced at £69.95 it’s not cheap, but I do believe that in the Web Master you do get a high quality harness that’s both secure and comfortable for your dog. Two very important factors to consider when buying a harness, especially when going on long walks.
So, to summarise, we would definitely recommend the Ruffwear Web Master Harness for any dog that walks a lot on mountains and country paths. It’s easy to put on, easy to clip your lead on to it and easy to clean afterwards. You can walk your dog knowing that they are secure and comfortable whilst looking great at the same time!
